ARTIST PROFILE – SONIA COLUMB

All throughout my childhood I’d always had a strong interest in art. My Mother and Father also have passion for art. My Mother would help me with my school projects and I would enjoy watching her creating something amazing with only a few coloured pencils. I took art in High School while living in Timaru and had a teacher that often said if I worked at it I could make something of my art. My family moved to Christchurch and my next teacher didn’t see the passion or recognise any sort of ability I may have had. During my 20’s I started painting with water colours and took a few art classes with a private teacher who introduced me to acrylics. I stopped painting again while raising three foster children with very ‘helpful’ hands. Now all grown, I find more time to paint doing mainly commissions but lately discovering what it is I would like to try.
